Stroking, Boring, Blueprinting, etc.
i know this may seem like a stupid question to some of you, but I'm illiterate to engines. so my question is this: What can you do to an engine to make it more powerful, like boring and stroking or w/e, or blueprinting it, or getting new computer chips?
maybe u can refer me to a book or website that can clear these things up? i've been googling that all day but i guess i can't find the right words to search for.. i sound like such a newb, AND DONT SPAM MY POST CHRIS (nah j/k :wink )

boring and stroking can create more power, so long as the remaining components are installed to work with the setup. Blueprinting is just that...making a blueprint of the engine you build...time consuming and not a power adder at all....as for the rest, if its efi, computer reprogramming or fuel management systems add ons are needed for seriously larger output setups.

Any type of boring and stroking will always give some sort of change in your hp/tq curve as long as you have the induction and fuel system to provide it with what it needs to breathe well. Boring the block means to more or less cut away material inside of your cylinders to the extent of making more displacement without hurting the cylinder walls. Stroking is just adding more length to the stroke of your engine which also gives more displacement. Blueprinting just means to basically build your engine to the specs and clearances that you have set out for it and checking and make sure they are right. That's a basic overview of those terms, I can go in more depth if you like. Engines run off of an air/fuel mixture. The more air and fuel you can put into an engine while doing it safely and keeping the ratio where you want it, the more the engine is going to love it. An engine also will provide as much power as it can for your which is why you want to make it easy on the engine. There are tons of things that you can do for this like taking out your a/c system, even windage trays or going as far as putting a knife edge on the counterweights of your crankshaft, it all goes on and on. Anymore questions, let me know. |

Some things a good engine builder will do:
measure ring end gaps for each ring and file each ring accordingly so all gaps are the same, fit each bore to each piston and number pistons accordingly, check all bearing clearances and adjust where necessary, debur block for better oil flow and drain back, possibly modify oil passages and/or install oil restrictors, adjust piston height in block for proper quench volume, etc. Those are just a few things and everything either makes more power or makes the engine more reliable.

ok how about a 351W. lets say u wanna get 400hp (just a random figure), how could you get that (from the engine, not talkin bout exhaust etc.) w/o power adders?
i kno there are different combos so jus gimme wut u think wud work i plan on saving one from a junkyard sometime in the near future (gonna be a bitch converting from a 2.3L)

400hp from a 302 is easy......from a 351 is easier.
