1994 Cobra With Blower

I just purchased a 94 cobra with a powerdyne blower. I had to get high flow cats installed to get a state inspection. The car initially had a loud blower whine but it now has a loud whine coming from the opposite side of the engine. Could cats cause a whine or is it something else. It's a very noticable whine from the left side of the car. I owned a 2003 Cobra with a factory blower and never had any issues but I'm fairly new to cars with afternarket blowers. Any advise would be useful.

Cats hould not make a whine...

So did you choose powerdyne or was it on the car when you bought it?

I have heard alot of HORROR stories about powerdyne blowers...

Blower

Actually it's a procharger and not a powerdyne. I just finished reading all the posts about how bad powerdyne was and typed in the wrong blower.
The noise actually started after I had high flow cats installed last week.
I wasn't sure if high flow cats could cause a problem with a blown engine.
The noise is actually coming from the opposite side of the engine from where the blower is located. Maybe the belt's loose or something else.

Could it possibly be an exhaust leak?

do you have an after market shifter? on my 98 gt with a vortech blower, it would shake the screws loose out of my shifter knob, and it sounded like something was wrong with the blower...

I don't think it's exhaust leak and I don't have an aftermarket shifter. I dropped it off at the shop yesterday to have my rear seal replaced and I also told the mechanic to look at the problem. At first glance he thought there was something wrong with the blower but he said he needed to look further into it and he also said the pulley under the alternator seemed noisy. What's else would I need to change if I wanted to go to a smaller pulley. Right now I am only pushing 6 lbs of boost and I would like to push 9 to 10 lbs but I don't want to sacrifice reliability in order to do that.
I think 9 to 10 is still safe on a stock block but I'm not sure.

realise also that prochargers need the seals replaced in them between every 12000-15000 miles. change the oil in the often and theyll work great and also they are some noisy ass blowers. had one on mine and it was very very loud

blower

The mechanic called and said the tensioner was bad and he also said on the 1994 mustangs the clutch cable is a problem area and that I needed a adjustable cable. I didn't argue with him because it was only $100.00, have you guys seen this problem.

The website stated the blowers needed to rebuilt every 50,000 miles. Is that not accurate, I know the manufactur will tell you anything to buy their product. At what point do you know when the blower goes bad and how do you change the oil in the blower? Is this a simple process?

Hopefully, when my car gets out from the shop, my oil leaks will be fixed.
One from the rear main seal and one from the dip stick tube.

well changin the oil is pretty simple but can be pretty messy. its just a screw on the blower, you pull it out and the oil will drain plug it and fill it from the top. they say every 50,000 miles but it seems that 95% of people start having problems when they get anywhere form 10-15k miles. mines had around 6,000 miles on it and it needed a rebuild.

they will start leaking oil when they need to be rebuilt. thats why people call them pro leakers

Blower

That's funny but not really. I just had my rear seal done and fixed a leak near my dip stick tube and something is still leaking. I hope it's not the blower. I just had the tensioner replaced and it was quit on the ride home but 200 miles later and it's still loud like the previous tensioner. I had a yellow 87 mustang that I had a 351 put in it and I felt like I was fixing the car every weekend. I hope I don't have to deal with that again (fixing every weekend). Back then that was my only transportation so it was tough. I wiped everything down underneath today because I had more oil on the floor, I am hoping the oil drip was residue from the old drip.

If I change the pulley to push 9 to 10 lb's of boost are there other changes that will have to be made or would I be ok. Right now the car is running slighly rich.
Did the 1994 Cobra come standard with keyless entry?

OTOTOTOTOTOTOTOTOT

That is one hell of a hard turn in the outlet pipe of the supercharger...

Could they not rotate it down and give you a better angle?

Are all the kits like that?

blower

Yeah,
That pipe that is angled down goes to the intercooler. The car runs great but I could use more power. I think I need to go with a more aggressive H/C/I package and I need to change the pulley. I may do that next year.
Any recommendations?

Man I'm glad I didn't but one of those. 40k on the Vortech and it still works great.

powerdynes are not that bad. Mine has only blowed out the oil dipstick tube and blew off the tube going to the throttle body the other night while at a red light. Car shut off and would not crank back up and run until I put it back on. The only thing is a powerdyne produces so much damn torque that you cant hit it hard if the car is hot. Guy had one on his and he hit it hard at the track when it was hot and it bent 7 of the 8 rods.

I disagree about the powerdyne. I had one and would never buy another, mostly because the customer service is awful. I had one on my 93 cobra. I have known a few people with them and never heard of them making low end torque... they are all top end.
