Stock vs aftermarket
So the obvious is aftermarket....yes I know. However, the stock mid pipe is a 2.5" and the aftermarket I would get is the same. If I just gutted the cats instead of installing an aftermarket mid, would it really make a difference? Why or why not? I have Mac catbacks.

the stock mid pipe is 2.25, just like the rest of the exhaust. not to mentin its all crinkle bent, but it is stainless. most aftermarket mid pipes are mandrel bent, some are stainless as well.

ahh, so i would be going up .25 and have better flow. i thought it was 2.5. its pretty sad ford cant just install some nice pipes instead of making the community go out and buy "better" stuff.

thats the one thing i have to give ford, they did keep the aftermarket a lot more plentiful for the mustangs.

yes. true. but you would think they would at least do a little bit more. I mean there are sooooo many different aftermarket items you can buy, and ever one of them are a step up from stock. it kinda sucks IMO.

well, you have to keep in mind that they have to build a car that satisfies a wide variety of customer needs. some people buy a Mustang and they're happy with it stock. they don't want serious power, or they don't want exhaust that's "too loud" (as if there was such a thing lol). Ford doesn't build them specifically for performance enthusiasts. that's what the 03/04 Terminator (as well as other "special" Mustangs) was built for. it was designed specifically with guys like us in mind, but they only made a few thousand...
so for guys that aren't lucky enough to get their hands on a Cobra or a Mach 1, there's the aftermarket for our little 2v's... |
