is FORD really that bad?

the soon to be v6 camaro's are supposedly pushing 300 hp. some import with an I-4 2.2L is doing about 210. im sure there are more examples of where other companies are producing smaller engines capable of more out put. WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!! this really makes me mad because my 4L v6 is only doing 220.

ENLIGHTEN ME PLEASE!!

220 you enlighten me? Dont they only puand they only push 210 and the 05s made 200

But anyway thats why ford makes the GT! The v6 is for people that want a mustang but either 1 know nothing about them and want one for the name and looks or 2 want one cause they think they get better gas mileage and they are cheaper

Why would Ford make the v6 make 300 horse? Thats what the GT is for. "the performance mustang"

I am an owner of Ford Escort and my opinion is, the car is just fine. Ford’s products are great and competitive. It seems even more of their products have been hits lately. I think car owners just needs time to really maintained their car so that they will not be having problem on the car performance.

i believe yall are missing the point.

a ford 4.0l v6 makes ~210.

a dodge 3.5l v6 makes ~300

an import 2.8L I-4 makes ~200

why is the ford 4.0 weaker?

cuz ford isnt tryin to make their v6 engine their powerhouse motor. for ford the v6 is their economy engine in the mustangs

and its not a dodge v6, its a GM v6 in the camaros

thats the first enlightenment.

is it possible to (maybe with a tuner) get in the computer and get more power out of the 6?

The 4.0 in the Mustang is the same 4.0 cammer that was in Explorers from '97 up and Rangers from '01 on up.
Putting it in the Mustang was purely a stopgap measure until the 3.5 V6 goes in.
That 4.0 also has a much broader powerband than any of those other engines you are quoting.

Fords had no competition for the mustang for years so why would they invest money into developement for big power. With this new competition comin about ford will step it up. They have takes of a 300hp v6 and a 400+ hp v8 comin out in the near future. The 400hp dodge and chevy cost a bit more than the mustang too. Ford got em beat wit the pricier gt500 but under powered with the GTs. Im confident Ford will be stepping up thier game and I think theyll be cheaper too.

I agree somewhat with what your (OP) saying. Every import maker out there has a V6 putting out just as much (sometimes MORE) as a Mustang GT. Same goes for the imports 4 bangers and Fords V6.

One big difference is this.... (and I try hard to keep this in mind too)

Weight and Gearing

The new camaros will be a hell of a lot heavier than the mustang from what I have read. They will NEED that much HP to get that lard ass moving. When it comes to the imports and them having so much HP. I dont think the majority of them have the propper gearing (or TQ for that matter) to really compete with the mustang. Yeah there are the exceptions like the new 350Z with its big horse power engine but you still get what Im saying.

Oh and one last note about the Camaro... they have been faster (in a straight line) for many years..... But the Mustang.... while being slightly slower.... is a much better ALL AROUND sports car. Straight line race the chavy has always beat us..... get on a curvy track and the mustang will walk away from the camaro in the turns. And I dont know this for a fact but... from what I have read the 4.6 modular engine is a better platform to start off building too.

No need to go crazy ranting on Ford..... yeah.... we have been lacking power for some time... But Ford is keeping up with the pack in other areas IMO

Even though the imports 6ers make around 300hp, most lack the torque of a v8.

ya i see what yall are saying. ands thats exactly what gets me mad. i guess a lot of imports come with some sortta turbo, so they have a little bit of an advantage there.

ya i hope ford steps it a up a few flights of stairs in the next several years.

come on dude, chevy has scheduled to re-release the camaro for four years now. they were only supposed to "be down for retooling" for one year. now they are saying "full production in 2009", meaning 2010 will be the first year available. They have been reporting catastrophic losses every year for half a decade. They might not be around in 2010.

but i agree that Ford has been behind the curve on power output for a few years now.

Unless youv'e got $65,000 to spend that is.....

Hell, even the higher output mustangs and f150's are not realy fords anymore. except for the cobra, they have been outsourcing all the higher power models to guys like rousch, saleen and shelby. You can buy a stock gt and make the power they have for alot less than buying one outright though.

My V6 Mustang (2003)makes 270+ HP and with my PI performance stall torque converter I get 40% more power to the rear wheels and a wider power band. I have other power adders as well of course but it didn't cost that much and I can keep up with GTs no problem and get better fuel eoncomy. I have a couple different tunes saved, one for performance, and one for good power and better fuel economy which is just modifying air/fuel ratios and shift points and using fuel additives that work mostly.
