Intercooler

Hey everybody, just want to get your opinion on something. I don't really like the look of having this big ass silver intercooler being visible at the bottom of the car... so I was thinking of getting some hi temp flat black paint and getting it to blend a little better. What do you think?

Im pretty sure you dont need high temp paint the air isnt gettin that hot. The paint will decrease the efficieny slightly though.

Do you guys have any preference on brand of intercooler? I don't see paying $950 for one through a turbo company if I can get one on e-bay for $300. Any suggestions?

EBAY is the way to go, a good on will give you efficiency and pressure loose. Ive seen $100 ebay intercooler wit .5 or so psi drop to 15 psi of boost. Intercoolers are the one part where you can save money and be cheap

I dont know where you got this idea to be cheap with intercoolers, but thats the very last place i would be cheap. Ive had cheaply made intercoolers burst under pressure. Its worth it to get a quality intercooler.

I ment that you dont need to pay a grand for an intercooler. You can find quality pieces for a few hundred bux. Ebay has some great deals on quality name brand pieces. How much boost were you runnin when you blew the intercooler?

I have a treadstone performance intercooler.

$400 and EXCELLENT quality.

FLAT black surface will radiate heat MUCH faster than shiney metal one.
It only absorbs heat faster if the outside air is hotter than it is.
There is a reason the bottom of the space shuttle is black. It sheds heat
much quicker. Now this isn't thermal heat it radiates faster but infra-red
electromagnetic heat energy. There is a difference between thermal conductive
heat transfer and thermal infra-red heat transfer.

I got my intercooler coated with a "thermal dispersant"
THERMAL DISPERSANT

I painted my outlet tube from intercooler flat black also, so that
it blends in more and is less noticeable.

It happend right around 27 psig. Some people say it was a "bit much," but the vendor said the intercooler was good for 35 psig.

Yeah, a few passes at 25-27.... and BOOOOOOM! Destroyed a bumper cover. The qaulity of the welds on the end tanks were shit, and the material used was really chinsy and thin. The cores were decent, but thats only half importance.

Well I, like alot of people around here arent pushin 20+ psi and I wasnt intending my comment for those who do. Ill be runnin 10-12 psi and thats more were I was thinking. If your running close to 30psi you whole engine is built to the balls and money isnt much of a concern. For the budget builder looking for good car the ebay stuff should work fine.

I hope theres enough room in your bumper to see some of it. If you cant see it you cant get good airflow either.
