Fuel Tank Leaks

OK You smell gas and you fuel use is up. You may have a leaking filler tube seal. I just replaced mine and it was bad. So here is the how to and some pics of the whole thing. Run you gas down to about a 1/4 tank at least.
1. you have three screws inside the fuel door by the cap remove these and the cap.
2. you have four screws for the trunk pass thru seal. remove these.
3. on the tank is a bracket for holding the filler tube solid to the tank remove this.
4. place a tranny jack or in my case I used my motorcycle jack to hold the tank up as you remove the two bolts holding the tank straps in place in on front side of tank one on rear side.
5. lower the jack slowly until the tube can pull out of the tank. watch you hoses and wires to the tank (there should be plenty of slack but make sure).
6. once tube is out then just pull out old seal.
7. I lubed up my new seal with hylomar which wil protect and improve the sealing ability. hylomar is one of the best sealing compound ever made and does not harden.
8. insert new seal in hole.
9. guide tube in and raise the tank. From here just reverse the steps....

If you look at my old seal you will see how bad it was but the only external signs was the smell, poor fuel usage and some discoloration near the seal.
new seal and no more 12MPGs
