Turbo
I've been doing some thinking, and I'm back at debating between a roots s/c or twin turbos for my GT which is still too far away for my liking. The only problem is that I don't know much about turbos. Anyone here have a turbo or know of someone who has a turbo setup? Well any information is helpful here.

Wow that diagram made it seem pretty simple. Thanks. I'm gonna have more questions about it when I actually get started on the project. I do have questions about placement of them though. I have seen in a magazine where a guy had two of them right next to the intercooler, and I have seen them in the engine compartment. I have heard that placement is very important. Which is better and why?

I've got a HP performance set up on my 97 cobra. It's a twin setup. Mine sit behind the front bumper. http://turbochargedpower.com/

no problem Rick, I didn't know this site existed, it's pretty nice!! I don't think theres much for benifits, you keep the heat down in the engine bay. I can tell, i love my kit. MOdular Powerhouse in GA put in on for me and they did a great job, especially the tune
If you go turbo you won't be dissappointed, i wasn't.

I have always been under the impression since the turbo(s) use(s) the exhaust gases to drive it, the closer you place the turbo to the exhaust ports the better the performance, not to mention less plumbing and more direct shots.
as posted above, here is a good link for some reading; http://www.turbomustangs.com/turbotech/main.htm they also have a good section on reading turbo maps, which is ideal for picking your turbo.

That site is very helpful, and it reminded me of another question I had. About turbo lag. That site said that if the parts are lighter you will have less turbo lag, but if you want higher amounts of boost you will have more lag because of the large size of the centrifugal mass. Is there a way to tune the car to reduce turbo lag? Or are there other ways to reduce lag?

most of the time turbo lag comes from picking the wrong turbo for the application, i know you can play with your timing to also reduce spool times

my boost comes on around 35-3800, but i've seen some 5.0 folk with properly sized turbo's come on like 2,500 on singles. I've seen my exact car with PTK turbo kit and his didn't come on til 5500, but i don't think it was tuned well. If i was to do it again i would have bought a 94-95 cobra, i'm biased towards the sn95, with the fox coming in a close 2nd, anyway, throw a 331 with a single turbo and i think i would have saved atleast a 1/4 of what i spent and had a car with 200 more HP.....atleast. 5.0 parts alot cheaper than 32 valve modulars.....but i when i bought my car i didn't think i would actually gone thru with turbos, but what's done is done, I am extremely happy with my setup

how much boost you pushing?
Also there are two different types of twin setups, parallel and sequential.. some run 2 different size turbos

to do it you would have the small turbo's wastegate open at a certain boost and dump its "boost" into the larger turbo which will make it spin alot faster and reduce lag. all of which can be done away with by using a properly sized turbo.
