converitible top install prices, want opinions.

hey guys
looking to replace the top on my 1990 gt.

here are some prices i got for the install
all these shops are pretty close and found them all online
also what type of top is best, It is a weekend car that may see 6k miles a year and is parked in a garage and the top will be down the majority of the time.

shop 1
600-includes top and labor to install
550-to install new glass window with heater/defroster

shop 2
380 + tax = stayfast top and plastic window
350-labor

shop 3
380-vinyl top and plastic window
400-installed

I e-mailed a few other shops and will post up their prices when i get a response.
thanks for the help

I haven't checked on labor prices yet, but the cost for the kit I'm buying for my '96 is just over $350.

Here is a quote from the install instructions.

Putting a new top on any convertible is considerably more work than you might think. Mike Ambrose, a seasoned professional who has been working with automotive upholstery for more tnan 25 years, takes the better part of a day - with shop tech Brian Burke - to correvtly install a good quality top.

The 2 guys, a better part of the day, all has me worried about labor prices. So your first price of $600 for parts and labor doesn't sound terrible.

Here's a link to the "how-to" if you want to try yourself.

Edit: lol. 1st post wouldn't let me put links in, had to delete them. Then come back and edit them back in. Oh well, just a little more work. Good luck with the top.

Thanks for those links, I think I am going to go ahead and have a shop do it sometime in the future once I finish some other things up on the car and am able to put it on a trailer to take it to a shop. I have gotten everything else set up pretty cleanly on the car and dont want to have a top that doesn't fit perfect.

Same here about the top looking right. After reading the "how-to", I think I gonna find a shop that'll do it myself. I gotta do the same with the new leather I'm getting for the seats.

I can turn a wrench all day, but I think I'll be lost when it comes to upholstery and the top.

ya, i'll tackle pretty much anything but upholstery. I should be getting this done christmas time after I finish mounting my new Sparco seats and harnesses and running new battery cables.
