Up to 100 hp with out a tune and follow the nitrous manufactures instructions to the letter.
Beyond that...you had better get on a chassis dyno with a wideband setup and tune it from there. BTW...I ran a 200 shot on my stock short block (hyp. pistons) for over a season with no problems at all.

Stock bottom end? 150hp will be safe. No more than 150hp though.

hey since we are talking about nos, how big of a shot could a v6 hold. I'm gonna port and polish the heads and manifolds soon but nothing to help the bottom end. 75 or 100? What's best for my engine (I know they will both wear down the engine or time, but for safe measures) a wet or dry shot?

On a 5.0 I would go with a 150 shot. Get a great tune though to avoid any pinging.
On a V-6, I don't know much about what the v-6 motors can handle, but I'm sure you would be fine with a 100 shot and a great tune. Remember that the better the tune is the longer your car will last while spraying. |

After I had posted my last post, I went onto supersixmotorsports's website and was reading their nos installation and it was saying that a v6 stock block could handle up to a 90 shot and anything after that would need a tune. I'm pretty sure these guys know what they're talking about.

i am leaning toward a ZEX wet system, 200 shot.
this should really help in beating those 350 chevy's! what those camaro guys don't know is i am already running a bigger engine than they, the 200 shot will just be the icing on the cake! |

The 200 shot wasnt a big deal...I ran it for all of one racing season and on the street all that following winter.
Durring the season...Id go through about 5-7 bottles a weekend and durring the winter, about 2-3 bottles a weekend. I just made sure I had my window switch set to turn it on no lower than 3600 rpm. It takes a fair amount of air movement in the intake and heads to keep that amount (175hp+) of nitrous and fuel from puddleing up and causing a backfire...which is more likely to happen if you sprayit at lower rpms. Last but not least...I strongly recommend that you get on a loading chassis dyno with a wide band setup. Start witht the 100 hp jets and work your way up, making the nessisary adjustments along the way. The dyno is money well spent. I sold that old short block to a highschool kid and its still going in his daily driver. Goes to show what good maintance and a good tune will do to add to the longevity of an engine.

What exactly is a loading chasis dyno with a wide band set up? Why is it necessary to start at 100 shot and work up? Thanks for the info BTW! |

A wide band setup includeds lab grade oxegen sensors that are used to data log your cars air/fuel ratio through out the rpm range while making a dyno pull. By data logging this info...you can make the appropriate adjustments to your tune (or nitrous/fuel jetting) to get your air/fuel where it needs to be. SuperFlo and MustangDyno are two brands of chassis dyno that are "loading" type. They have the ability to simulate a "road/track" load on the engine at all rpms and throtle positions. An inertia dyno such as a DynoJet is only good for WOT tuning...which in your case with the nitrous...will work. The reason you start with a small shot and work you way up is because you dont want to start with a 200 shot and find out the hard way that your air/fuel is way off or that you got some other problem that can cause damage to your engine. Small steps.
