If what you bought states that it requires retuning,
wait for the tuner.
Differant kits have differant parts and requirements I don't memorize everything, but if you change the amount of air through the meter w/o calibration it can be bad.

just adding a CAI wont hurt anything. the computer will read and adjust on its own. with all the bolt ons a tuner is not required but will help bring full potential out of them. when you get to really messing with fuel/air delivery then it will be required. (ex. boost, injectors, nitrous if you want to tune to that, etc.)

Sweet2kstang, if you use a kit that has a larger bore maf housing but reuses your stock sensor a tune is needed because you will max out the sensor, also it will create issues in the calculations inside the ecu, trying to figure out mixture control.
So I stand firm, if the kit says you need to tune it, do it.
it's not worth damaging an engine for 10 hp.

Sweet2kstang is talking about his 02 stang. On a 05 and up, if the kit says it requires a tune it is due to the car running too lean after the CAI is installed. So if you do drive it without the tune and it requires it your engine could be hurt, but it could also go into limp mode and would run very poorly and not allow you to really drive it. Limp mode is basically designed to get you to a repair shop. I would say don't put it on until you have your tuner (if it requires a tune) Just my opinion. But it would suck to hurt your motor and risk your warranty over only a few more days of waiting.

no tuning is required for a CAI, you probably wont notice any gains either, especially if this is your first bolton

if you run a larger MAF when its not needed then you are an idiot! all vehicle specific kits are made to work on a factory car that means no tune required! if that unsure about it call the manufacture you got it from. i have yet to find a direct replacement CAI that has to have a tune

He didn't say he went with direct replacment or a full on kit with meter ect.
he mentioned he had a tuner on the way. If he has a full set up with a new sensor ect. I was suggesting he simply follow what ever the manufaturer recomended. If no tune is recomended fine, but if it is there is a reason.
