Brake Cooling Ducts

Hey i am interested if any one has taken the side scoops on their 94-04 mustang and modified them to feed cooling ducts for the rear brakes, or if anyone has came up with a rear brake cooling duct system. i am going to use and modify the quantum motorsport kit for the fronts, yet desire to do a rear kit as well.

I don't think I've ever seen it done.

The only functional scoops or vents I've ever seen on a stock Mustang are the Shaker hoods on the Mach 1s.

I'm sure you could get back there with a drill, sawzall, bailing wire, and some dryer ducting and have a homebrew setup going.

That being said, though, what are you doing that with a fairly open wheel (such as the ubiquitous '95 Cobra R/'98 Cobra wheel) and a slotted/cross-drilled rotor is still causing overheating in the REAR brakes?

No overheating. but my goal is to build a reliabl street/track car for the ventures to VIR and Summit. with that i plan to take any measures possibly to extend the life and onsistency of the wear of the braking system. 17" GT five spokes(not the bullitts).

I havent taken off the side scoops, so anyone that has....can you inform me as to how te area is behind it? is there an opening? is it a scoop over a panel so no opening?

Suspension, Brake, and Chassis upgrades IMO are worth more than Engine upgrades alone.

Okay, I'd run the car a few times before I'd go through with the modifications that you're asking about. Look at what the American Iron guys are running - a mod like this would be totally open, and at this time I don't beleive ANY of them are running ducting like this to their rear brakes. The flipside of that coin is that I'm almost positive such a mod wouldn't be allowed in Camaro-Mustang Challenge, and I don't know of any of them running into issues with their rear brakes, either.

behind the scoop is a big metal hole ud have to hack at it though with a saw not worth it imo. i saw a guy with the twin turbos sitting in there(one in each) though that was pretty cool but still not worth it imo.

I think you'd have to fab that up yourself. Trial and error and alot of patience. If you have the time and the talent to work sheetmetal then go for it. Maybe you could patent the design and sell it to a manufacturer for some nice coin!!!

yea. true and that all makes sense. and very well those series mostlikely wont allow certain mods but another series will. i dont know if i will compete in a series or not.

Yea the turbo kit ive seen before. thought about doing it but it required modification to the rear seat side trim panels and so forth. wild and cool, but im not up for that much fabbing. JMS Products/Ironman Customs has that and a targa kit.

Sheetmetal doesnt scare me too much. So there is a gap or space shall i say behind the scoop? The metal that id have to hack through would it only be the metal for the fender well (big gap behind scoop) or it look like there was less of a gap and probably layers of metal to cut through?

Trial and error and patience i can do. Have to see how involved the it would be and all. Be nice to make a Cervinis or Cobra style Side scoop functional on the new edge.
