Trans Fluid

What trans fluid should i use for the TR3650 in the mach? I heard people saying not to use royal purple and some say to use. The locally tranny shop has no idea what to use. im having a hard time going into 3rd. and he said it might need a fluid change. also how much fluid is needed? So what would be good

I don't know. I think Mercon 5 ATF is synthetic

Just use Mercon 5 ATF

That's what it says on All-Data.

use EXACTLY 3 LITERS. they changed the amount in late 05 or something like that. and use conventional. synthetic will wear down the syncros faster. just use some mercon V or dextron III either will work. might want to put some of the lucas oil tranny fix in as well the guys over on the registry swear by it. and when i changed mine not to long ago i could def tell a difference. check out the registry if your not on there LOTS of good info for your mach.

synthetic is a no-no in 5spd's. dont know about the wear thing but it's too slippery for the syncro's to work well. might be ok granny shifting on the street but next time your at the track mention to some track regular mustang guy that your having problems power shifting (just for example) & the first thing he'll say to you is "you don't have synthetic in there do you ?"

ALLData calls for 3.3qts of any Mercon 5 ATF for the 3650.

I do 3.3 because of what all data says. I trust the TSB's on there more than Tremec (don't ask why I just do). But even 3 should be fine. I don't see a problem w/ 3 qts. So basically; anywhere from 3.0-3.3qts.
