05-07 3.73 gears in a 98 gt????

I was looking on americanmuscle.com and found a 3.73 gear and xcal-2 package deal but the gears it says is for a 05-07 and the package deal for the 98 was the same except the tuner was a predator... so i called them and they said that i had to buy the gears that were for an 05-07 to get the xcal-2 tuner but they also said the gears would fit just the same on my car... im guessing there both 8.8" rear ends... i was just wondering if u all think thats right before i spend 540$ to buy it.
