aiming hid headlights???

I know the old skool way of aiming headlights, aim the beam at a wall 25 feet away, adjust the beam so it is 2-3 inches below the cut off etc, etc.. But , that was with halogen lights..piece of cake. Anyone ever tried to aim the headlights with hids??? It is freakin impossible to aim lol. Just curious to see if anyone has been pretty close to getting theirs aimed perfect. Or have any tips on aiming. Thanks in advance

This seems to be the issue with the HID conversion kits installed in the stock Stang headlights.

I purchased completely new HID lights and have the cut-off line as described... easy to adjust. My understanding is because of the design, there is no real way to "aim" the HID conversion, hence blining oncomming traffic. Below are a few links to HID's, conversions an what not, so hopefully this will be of some help:

New Headlights and HID set-up

Installed 6000K HID's

Those are the ones most reciently posted on MM's.

That's because most aftermarket HID light do not put out a legal beam pattern - the cutoff and such often get all screwed up if you put a HID bulb into a reflector designed for a halogen bulb. Something like a legal HID projector assembly (the ones off Acura TSXs seem popular for this swap) mounted behind the stock lens could probably be aimed in the normal way if you mounted it in a way that retained the stock aiming mechanism.

Yes, I believe you are 100% correct. I think what im going to have to do is plug in the old halogen bulbs and then aim them that way. Then, after they are all lined up evenly, swap the halogen for the HID bulbs and ballasts and they should be pretty good. Hopefully have a nice enough cutoff.
