Well if you got the money one of the new 700hp Super Snakes would be nice. But more realistically, I'd say, a Shelby GT would be nice. It's a bit more then the GT but it's a bit nicer. If you want more performance then I would look at a coupe and not a vert. Vert's tend to have a little more body roll and are heavier then the coupe.

The Shelby is 4.6L and has 319hp I think it's a SOHC 3V.

Yep, only the GT500 and 99+ Cobras, or any variation of those cars, are DOHC 4V

You say S197s are too expensive, and New Edges are ugly. That leaves you with SN95s as the only thing newer than a foxbody.

In that case, your best bang-for-the-buck would be a Cobra, rebuild the shortblock with forged rods and pistons (crank is forged stock), port the heads, and boost the heck out of it.

Or if you're into more than straight lines, SN95 Cobra with either a full Maxium Motorsports or Griggs Racing suspension kit. MM for streetability, Griggs for outright handling.

08-09 is when the bullet (S-197) first came on the scene plus and extra 5 grand for the same motor as the GT with a cold air intake but I love the idea of a Bullitt just not the price

Why not an '05 GT, and then the Ford Racing supercharger?
