Royal Purple Oil Filter?

I seen that Pep-boys has a deal for 5 qts oil and a royal purple oil filter for $50. Is this Royal Purple oil filter new? I've never seen it before, FYI it costs $15 by itself. I use the royal purple oil w/k&n filter but was curious if anyone has seen/used the RP oil filter.

personally i see no difference in the "expensive" oil filters and our stock motorcraft one. It filters the same and costs MUCH less. Now oil is a different story each company is different. But as for oil filters i wouldnt' waste my money on a k&N or royal purple cuz they are the same as the motorcraft. Fastlane the mustang speed shop closest to me they put motorcraft oil filters on all their race cars...so i mean thats saying something right there.

There is nothing wrong with the motorcraft filter, but its not the same as the K&N, the K&N filters 10micron particles, whereas the ford does 20. Plus it has twice the burst pressure, and flows more freely than the motorcraft. Again there is nothing wrong with the motorcraft, but there is a reason for the extra money spent on a K&N.

The motorcraft filter is a pretty good filter, actually.

Motorcraft for 3ish bucks, besides my car has 1800 miles and the oil has been changed 2x. I wouldnt have seen a benefit in having a K&N/Mobil 1 high dollar filter-I do run Mobil 1 5w-20 full synthetic tho. Dont run Royal Purple in a street car.

No Royal Purple in a street car? I shouldnt.....but let me ask anyway....Why not?
Back on topic: I have never seen the Royal Purple oil filter before, but wouldnt mind trying it out. Right now I use RP with the Ford Racing oil filter and it cost me about $15.

Theyre fairly new. I havent used one yet and probably wont since im not a big royal purple fan but As far as I know theyre made by champ labs (same company that makes mobil1 filters),very similar to the mobil1 and k&n's, and will be exclusive to pep-boys.

I put a royal purple filter on today (was $15 vs $13 for the kn) bc they were out of the k&n. I cut my K&n open and sure as shit it looks like nothing more than cardboard...im not saying thats what it is but thats what it actually looks like. Next change ill be cutting the royal purple one open to see whats up with it. Although from looks on the outside minus the nut on the end vs the knurled container for the royal purple they seem to be the same.

I use Fram oil filter with Castrol Syntec 5W-20. Going with Royal Purple 5W-20 with a K&N filter next time.
