my car is possessed
i've had this reaccuring code since i got the car 2 years ago.
P1443- Evaporative Emission Control System/Vacuum System/Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault. now, the code will choose to trip or not trip, and randomally it will go on and off in the vert everytime i get a cel, 9/10 it's this code, and before i can get it fixed, it goes off by itself. it use to only happen if i filled up with the car running, which i did 2 weeks ago, but now it seems to be doing it for a random reason. anyone else have issues with this code goin on and off at it's wim? |

you aware of the big black can on the passenger firewall? it has a solenoid with a clip plugged into it. The "Can" recycles full vapors back into the gas tank. The can either needs replaced or the solenoid is toast.

dont know if its easy, dont know why it trips, its just a can full of charcoal and will eventually wear out like old mufflers and stuff like that.
The code is trying to tell you something isnt right. Its probably detecting to much fuel vapors or something as such. I dont believe it will hurt anything if you dont replace it, its just going to trip a code. I believe its more of an emissions thing than anything else. You should be able to buy the parts at autozone or such. Not expensive the last time i checked. try unplugging that little sensor on the can and see if it trips the same code again. |

light came on and off again over the course of the last few days......
if it comes back on again i'm gonna look into replacing the cannister..... the last time this happened i seafoamed the car, and i did it again 2 weeks ago....... i wonder if that's the cause |

That is the same one that goes off if you don't close your gas tank when the car is on. It doesn't like that. If it doesn't go off soon, you could replace the sensor, but its not something I would really worry about. Just annoying to have the light on.

you can't pass inspection in NY with the light on..... plus i don't like it there..... it's not sposed to be on for a reason..... if something else goes wrong.... etc

9/10 times when i've seen that code, its the fuel cap. replace it and you should be fine.

Good advice. The purge solenoid can get clogged crap and cause the code too. the solenoid is the main cause other than the gas cap.

Look at the passenger side of the car near the firewall. There is a big black can there. That is your EVAP canister. The plug sitting on it is the purge solenoid. If you still cant locate it i will be more than happy to provide pictures.

my dads car was doing similar thing he unplugged it and cleaned connection, put some dielectric grease on it and it was fine after that
