FRPP 3.73 gears with Motive Complete Installation Kit?
I was just wondering if I could use Motive's Complete Installation Kit (includes bearings) with my FRPP 3.73 gears. Has anyone had any problems with Motives Installations Kits. Any suggestions for a better install kit? The kit is only $75 from http://www.americanmuscle.com/rearendrebuild.html

Well... The shims are not the problem in this situation being they themselves won't all be used (if any) and are just a tool to adjust the depth the pinion sits at in the diff. (think of them like washers used to raise bolt heads higher). Crush sleeve and the gasket (if it comes with the gasket) won't be an issue. The pinion bearing, however, will be the slightest bit bigger than stock, and that will screw you. I bought a bearing from dealer for OE measurement and we had to grind the inside quite a bit to get it to begin to fit around the pinion, then had to shop press it on. You have to use a shop press anyways, but we had to grind it before we would even think about using one.
My advice: Buy the necessary bearings, the crush sleeve (or 2 in case you screw up one), the seals, and whatever other wearing parts you see from the dealer, and re-use the shims on your old pinion. The old pinion is cut the same way as the FRPP gears, and thus using the same shims will have you arrive at the same depth as before All these parts will also cost a good amount less than $75.But that's just my $.02
