86 Mustang GT SVT/SVO?
I recently pruchased an 86 mustang from a friend for a very very cheap price. The VIN states it's a GT wich is correct... but it also has an SVT emblem on the dash above the glove compartment, and after my research I found out that SVT's weren't made until '93.
Is it possible that it is an SVT which i assume is the Cobra and not the SVO? I have contacted one of the previous owners and he said he purchased it with the emblem and he him self never knew the exact info on the car. He mentioned that the owner before him had swapped out the rear end to a 373, and mentioned something about the backlighting on the intrument cluster being red?!? not really sure if there is any significance to the red lighting or not there was also mention of the heads being closed chambered not exactly sure what that means but it sounds good. if anyone is knowledgeable on this problem I am having it would be of much help to me!

the SVT emblem cant mean anything..........Ive heard of people goin to dealerships and stealing SVT emblems off cobras and such and then sticking em on their cars.......very nice purchase by the way, I have an 86 GT too, I love that car, those engines r super strong and reliable, I got mine for 800 bucks with 110,000 miles and I'll never get rid of it, how many miles r on yours

I'm sure it's beating a dead horse at this point (pun unintentional), but your SVT badge is pure rice. Even if it were an SV-something, it'd be an SVO in '86, and it'd have a Turbo 2.3L. I think you can buy an SVT badge for about $10.
But, agreed, cool car, first of the fuelies, just get rid of that damn badge

Yes so I've heard I have a fake... once i did i went out to pry the emblem off, i know something wasnt right with that emblem.!! But this car has aprox. 170K on it and i purchased it for 160 bucks!!!
and yes the title was clear. Its now legal and my daily driver the only thing i have done to it is rebuild the tranny, the engines runs like a beast but the body needs some work... but its getting there ive only had it for about a month now so it takes some time...and money of course! But when you dont have a women to take all your money you get things done a little faster!! Thanks you guys for your input!! heres a few pics for ya took look at, surely not a $200 car! definatly worth more!!! |

yo i got an 86 too and i dont care what anyone says they are the best looking fox, the only prob is the damn engine, the pistons are completely flat b/c of the stupid heads ford used. the only heads that will fit on it are hte trick flow twisted wedge. But u then cant use a cam cause of ptv, so im just gettin a block out of a 89 and puttin a huge cam in that, and be done with it.
but the 86 is awesome, good luck wit it |
