ok ive found a site with alot of info on the swap itself and it looks like it would cost less than the 5.0 stroker i started buying parts for, so i think the 5.4 with my pi heads is going to be the way to go. the 4.6 to 5.4 intake plates are 300 and thats is the only thing you need to do this. everything else i have i can do to this the hp doesnt go up much but man does the torque junp by tons and at low rpms.

the thing is i am looking for 350 to 400 horse for this seems im going to be driving around in it everyday, and to get that i will spend prob half that on the 5.4

muscle mustang built up a 5.4 and are running that at well over 1200 hp.

Im going all motor for this so i think the 5.4 will be a better choice for what i want

the 5.4 is in the explorer, expidition, f150-250 for the swap u would need a new timing cover, block, intake adapter plates so u can bolt up the pi intake reichard racing sells them, you could probably get asway with the swap for around 2 or 3 grand but it is well worth it

new ford racing block 400.00
standard crank kit 189.00

i havent got the price for the pistons and rods yet and that is if i buy new.

I also found a 5.4 out of an f150 that a friend has he said i could have for 350 so i might just go that way and re-ring it and put my pi heads i just got.

so im not real sure which way im going yet but i have started getting the parts together. Im thinking of giving my uncle my intake and the 5.4 intake and seeing if he can make me some adaptor plates because he is head of maint. at federal mogul he said it should be too bad of a job. its not the first thing he has made for me. He has gotten pretty good at throttle body spacers, so we will see what he can come up with.

Ill keep everyone updated

i think the adapter plate is for using your pi intake on a 5.4 and 5.4 heads, you don't want to put a 5.4 truck intake on your car lol. I don't think your heads will fit on the 5.4.

I think the heads will fit, th manifold will just need the adapter plates. They're needed becuase of the taller deck height of the 5.4 i believe, but SOHC heads are somewhat of a bottle neck on a 5.4.

i called and talked roush motorsports today and asked what they thought about the combo of a stock 5.4 my pi heads with a 4.6 pi intake to find out what cams they would think would be good and to see if they had any other insight. They said they have had a few ask about this but they usually turn and change their minds. they said with what i have and a few other small things they said i could easily make 325 hp and an even better 400 ftlb of torque with the proper tune.

With the amazingly low 8.5-1 comp they said to through a mild s/c on it with 6-8 lbs and i would easily add 75 hp and 100 ftlbs in the torque range. I am really liking this motorsports deal we have with the ford shops around here you can call and they will actually talk to you.

and yes 4.6 and 5.4 heads are basically the same different cams and valve covers but nothing that would hinder the project.

im thinking about ordering the new block to do this it would be just so easy and i would have close to that after taking the block in and getting it check and dipped
