GT vs. Z28

ok listen, i have an 02gt 5speed with bbk headers, offroad x pipe, flowmaster 40 series, b&m shortthrow shifter, bbk cai, and 70mm throttle body. a friend of mine has a 1992 z28 camaro with ramair, tuned and flowmasters. we have raced twice from a 30 roll and i walk all over him but now hes wanting to go from a dig and lay $100 on the line. should i have anything to worry about, his cars seems to accelerate decently fast and doesnt spin. its automatic too.

for only $100? do it, get plenty of practice doin your launches, and try stalling your car with the e-brake

dont put any money on ti since you cant afford to lsoe 100. those camaros are not that fast and you should be able to beat him. you dont have to use the emergency brake either. if your an auto hold the brake and give it gas right up to the point that the tires will start to spin and thenlaunch when your ready to go. sticky tires help a lot and dont street race

Ditto what drgn said. If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to race. Just make sure the guy hasn't been sandbagging you trying to set you up and score an easy hun off you.

race him and just beat him already. if you have no problem from a dig, he doesnt have the low end in it if those are his only mods. trust me. I have less power than you and i walk those cars no problem.

But he's in a 5 speed.

You should get some real good practice in before you race from a dig. If there's gonna be money bet you deffinantly don't want to blister the tires and give him a huge jump.

I SAY LUANCH AROUND 3000 RPMS. GET YOUR TIRES WARM BUT DO NOT SIT THERE AND BURN THEM WORST THING YOU CAN DO TO STREET TIRES RIGHT THRE. ANYWAYS GO TO 3000 AND LET OUT. IT WOULD BE BETTER TO BOG A LITTLE THAN GO UP IN SMOKE

Well, dont go think Z's are not fast. The Z28 he is talking about is a 92 Z28 with a Tuned port 350 or an Lt1 in later years. making not much power at all. Around the same power as a stock 5.0. Now the Ls1 has a serious amount of power and they are the ones you need to watch out for.

the year z28 hes tlaking about was a pussy. the ls1 (98-02) will kick your ass. as for tire slip being good, thats true, but hes a newbie at launching therefor he wont have it perfect, and his tires are going to go up in smoke therefor he will loose the race

the 92s have the tpi motor in them. the 94-97 have the lt1 and the 98-02 have the ls1

i used to have a buddy that had an 89 formula 350 with TPI and i would walk all over him in my stock 93 cobra with o/r exhaust. so you should be able to beat him. i think the hole shot will be important on that race.

Not to mention every car is different, even if it's just a little different. Little differences win drag races. Put two Mustangs of the same year with the same drivetrain on the dyno, and they will make different power, and one will be slightly faster than the other.
