Curb Burn?


If your like me, you know black rims are the meanest looking of all. and if you suck at parallel parking like me, your beautiful black rim has some minor scratches around the lip. I have an answer: glossy black engine enamel. Its tougher than regular black paint, and wont die when covered in brake shizzle.

sand the scratch (not the surrounding area) lightly with 100# sandpaper or whatever, wipe with wet rag and let dry. spray some enamel into a cup and paint onto scratch with SMALL brush. like the kind da vinci would use on the mona lisa...except mustangs look better lol.

let dry for 10 min and do another coat. I do 3 coats for good luck. If you burn a curb again, repeat these steps to get rims that will look good as new...from 5 feet away...just dont tell anyone

Good info. I've become a far more cautious driver since I got the new rims on. My stock rims look like hell from curb rash. One of 'em is actually bent from a curb.

Thanks, and ouch i almost want to see a pic of those.
plus i was gonna say, a blacked out mach 1 is like my dream car...so mad props and kudos there.

Thanks man!

One of my rims has curb rash literally halfway around the rim (stock rims by the way). That's the one that was bent. I bounced my car off a curb when I first bought it (gassed it a bit too much, and the roads are nice and slick here all the time). That rim is the one that's bent... The axle was bent as well. I had that replaced, and there was never any wobble to it when I drove. The last time I had new tires put on those wheels, the guy at the shop asked if I knew it was bent.... so I waited till the tread was dead and got the black cobras. It's not visible though, just something that made it difficult to balance. The other rims all have nice little gnaw marks on 'em from various curb love-making over the years.

I've had the black rims on for over a year and I've gotten one mark, and that was probably from a rock that flew up and hit one of the spokes. I covered that with some touch up. Other than that, I'm a happy guy : D
