New springs

My friend says i have to get them like compressed or something with a special machine before i can put them on, or else they wont lower. Is he full of crap? I thought you can just put them on.

they are sportlines if that makes a difference

you can put them on w/o it most likely. i've never done a set of springs you had to compress before putting them on. i had to wiggle a little bit but they went on fine. as far as them not settling right, that's bs

No you dont need to compress the springs to put them in. Some use a spring compressor but I have never used one..always used the jack.

yeah he said the spring compressor is a machine that compresses the spring to the certain height...or drop...before putting them in. otherwise they will be stock height. i said BS but little voice in my head said he might be right. thanks guys, just checkin

A spring compressor makes it easier to put the springs in but once you get them in (with or without the compressor) the weight of the car will be enough for them to sit right. The car will need like 2 weeks to settle completely but it will still be lower than stock from the get go.

yeah i put one in one sunday and the other rear one in yesterday...and the sunday one is a full inch lower still....hope that evens out. didnt think 24 hours would make that much difference, but if you say 2 weeks then i guess all I do now is have fun breaking them in

It sounds like your friend is just trying to sound like he knows his shit, and doesn't.

The compressor has nothing to do with the final results, it is only to help with the installation. With stock springs it makes a bigger difference because they are taller than most lowering springs. Most lowering springs fit in without an issue once the car is jacked up and the A arm dropped correctly.

Not really. All they are doing is compressing the bottom of the a-arm bracket a bit. If it got stuck and didn't come back up I might wonder, but I still don't think it would matter.
