performance builds /life expectancy of 4r70w
ive got an automatic 01 gt... and i have read a few articles here and there on the trans that kinda worries me and makes me want to know more about either building it (4r70w) or gettin something better.
1. can any one tell why is it bad for the trans to shift into overdrive under WOT 2.i know some places can beef up this transmission but does it affect the strength of the over drive for racing purposes? the reason i want to try and build this transmission is because for the while ive been using it, it has proven very reliable for street and track use and i absolutly love this thing so if possible i id like to hold on to it and continue to use it thanks for any of your input

don't know what articles you've been reading but these tranny's are VERY strong, you very seldom hear about someone breaking them. as to the overdrive, it's mostly the torque-converter that gives you full thottle o/d shift problems, but at the track you should not be in o/d anyway.

if im at the dragstrip then no im not i dont have o/d on but eventually im gonna be on some good sized road courses and im gonna need a 4th gear lol.. but i dont want to blow it up (it sounds funny but a 120mph top speed isnt gonna cut it)

good luck with trying to sort out an open track car with a 4r70w. all the mods that I've ever dealt with are drag related. from my experiance no auto fares very well in an open track car (all the forced up & down shifts kill them not to mention the heat you'll build up) at a minimun you'll need a tripple disc converter to handle the constant lock/unlock of the converter & every top of the line internal hard part you can get. although it's the opposite in my world (bracket racing) I would think you'd be furter ahead to swap a stick in for what you want.

truthfully your absolutly right, the manual is for "the most part" a far better choice then an automatic.
but its really just for the control of clutch and shift timing. 1. the heat isnt a big deal ill just end up getting a cooler for the tranny 2. i dont really expect to be ultra competitive.... although i am lol, but this car is still gonna be drivin to work 3. i would love to make this transmission damn near invinsible none the less if i dont have to worry about it breaking then i can run down the best of em even in the turns with that auto so its all good lol
