idiot question

when somebody says they are getting a tune, does that mean theyre using a handheld tuner or going to a shop to get it tuned?

a tune is just reflashing the computer, either on a dyno or with your own handheld.

well a hand held tuner is loaded with tunes. for basic stuff like a CAI, exhaust, etc...can be done without going to a shop. stuff like cams, blowers, turbos, nitrous, etc...is usually done on a dyno. the a/f ratios can make or break a blower/turbo/nitrous car's engine, literally lol.

to get it tuned for mine with the blower was around 200 i think or somewhere there abouts, but i'm in good with my tuner so he hooks me up. for an n/a car i'd expect around $150 or so for a normal price. as far as just having it mail ordered, most places will put a couple tunes on there for free.

i think bama chips does it, and vmp probably.

here's who i use and highly recommend though: SpeedyDyno.com

i think theres a few in the maryland area though that would be closer to you. if you go to sctflash.com there's a part where you can put in your zip code and it pops up tuners in your area.

Living in Maryland, Your best bet is Justin Burcham at JPC Racing in Glen Burnie Maryland.

Most tuners will do a package deal of the Handheld tuner, tuning/dyno time...Your looking at a bill of about $500 for the package..but well worth it.

+1 on Speedys Dyno.

A handheld will do some of the basics, but won't give you the full potential of what's under the hood that a real tuner (that is taking it to a tuner) can give you.

if you have anything more then a CAI or upgraded cat-back. if you have BOTH of those you should get a tune, I read it in popular mechanics that the computer cant fully unleash with all these components that dont suck like the stock ones. JUST a CAI and you dont need one. JUST a cat-back and you dont need one.........or something like that

basically anything that alters the stock running conditions, and you will need a tune. well, its not needed, just HIGHLY recommended, and even needed in some cases such as F/A and stroker kit and such, i think
