my mach 460 rear speakers (very Strange)

I was cleaning the back of my mustang the other day and when I took off the grill that holds the speakers, there was carpet covering the speakers. I noticed there were cutouts so I went ahead and cut they rest of the carpet that covered both the speakers. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe they got lazy at ford when they were assembling the cars or something? I dunno, but I thought that would kinda defeat the purpose of listening to music having carpet covering them.

Notice any changes in volume? I'd assume it would be louder since you removed the carpet, but is it really noticeable?

I havent tested it out yet, but Im sure it will make a difference. The grills just pop right off and really easy to put back on. I never noticed this until I did this. Ive had my car for years and just now noticed this lol

I think Ford half-assed a little bit of the assembly on these cars. Under the dash on the passenger side, it looks unfinished. The first time I saw it I thought someone had broken into my car and tore things out. Couldn't believe the garbage they call "quality" sometimes.

all cars with the 460 from 94-04 have those cut-outs. 460's are mounted to the amp rack and then the sound travels through the opening, through the carpet, and through the grills. Stock systems the speakers are mounted directly to the deck plate and the cardboard over top with openings through the carboard for sound distribution. the carpeting is purely asthetic, i cut it out on a customers car, cause he wanted it, and I told him that it will not effect the sound quality but he insisted. in his case he had a white GT and then was pissed off cause if you look from the back all you could see was white metal and the 6.8's then he tried to get me to fix it and I just told him that he insisted and that I wont.
The fiber on the rear deck carpeting are rather loose anyways. The only time you'll really notice a difference in SQL is in competitions where they have a meter that can actually measure it.

So the customer was pissed after you cut it out ?? But he insisted , so he shouldnt get mad at you. My back windows are tinted so you can see it anyways. So it wont affect noise at all are you sure? Because when I went and blasted my stereo, it sounded much more clean than it did before. And ive been driving my car for awhile now..

it may sound a "little" better but its not really going to make that much of a difference to be honest with you. if you were to take the carpet that you cut out and pull on it a little you will see how loosely arranged it is. Yeah the guy had no right to be pissed but I just laughed and shrugged him off
