street/strip DOHC build help
ok so im sure a few of yel here know about the rockers comming out on the mod motors right!?? well one of mine did just that and it broke something as it came out. Everything looks normal under the valve cover but the spark plug was beat up on that cilender and when i blow air in the plug hole it flows right out the exhaust like nothing is there. I have already pulled this motor once for a head gasket and this time i have a little money put back and this time its not going back in stock!!
so what im asking as what should go into this motor it will be my dailey driver so i need a relibel motor. As you can see it needs to be able to take a beating as this will be my 3rd motor in about 2-1/2 years. money is not that much of an option but i dont want to blow money on parts that i dont really need. Plans so far is for a good set of ported heads, nice set of cams, headders and true dules, and no boost. I will have a set of 4:10's a locker and polly diff mount bushings going in with the new motor, the trans is farley low miles and has a shift kit in it already and it seems to be holding up pretty well right now. So what im asking is: 1: Any ideas on what cams are the best for my app? 2: Do i really need forged crank for a N/A build? 3: where would a good place be to start looking for this stuff or atleast do some reading on the subject? |

a forged crand is nice assurance but not nessecary. if keeping an all motor set up go with h-beam rods and a forged higher compression piston. i wouldnt up it to much, around 11.5:1 so you can still run pump gas without problems. but later down the road if you wanted to boost the compression will be to high. cams a deffinate, do some p&p work on the heads to make it all worth while, and now is a good time for headers. the other bolt-ons of course and a good tune will be needed.
