cams and gears question

cams and gears
I just realized this but would getting like stage 2 or 3 cams in the high RPM's and then getting gears like 430 or whatever.. Since you rev higher you would see more hp farther up in the RPM's, and a shit load better acceleration, but since you can rev higher and have more power higher in the rpm band would your top speed maybe go up or stay the same even with like 4 56 gears.. I am just trying to understand the whole concept.. anyone want to explain it to me lol.. like how gears and cams work together.. sorry if you dont understand the question lol

If you have a shorter gear ratio you will be able to utilize the higher rpms better. But you will lose a negligable amount of top speed. Going for stock gear ratio to something like 3.73's is going to lose you only about 10-15mph.

But with a camshaft that say has a powerband range of 1500-6000 that is just where the camshaft will have peak flow. So more high end power you should have a shorter gear ratio then say if you had a powerband of 1000-5500.

It's just about getting a good middle ground for both of the modifications.

Oh and shorter gears do not give you any more horsepower. In fact you might even lose 1-2 rwhp with really short gears like say 4.56 due to all of the extra friction that is caused from the extra rotation of the rear end gears.

Any questions, or did I miss anything?
