Question about buying a 96 GT

I was thinking of buying a 96 GT but it has 173k miles on it. Supposedly it has been taken care of, and I will have a mechanic look at it.

Will those 4.6 engines go well over 200k? It will become a daily driver.

when taken care of yes they can hit some high mileage numbers , but one thing u should know is that gt mustangs 96 to 98 were underpowered, they did not have the pi setup like the 99 to 04 cars do. so eventually u will whant to get a pi motor whick bolts right up to the 96-98 gts they are the same block just diff heads and intake. hope this kind of helps u out.

It depends on the price. I wouldn't pay over $3,000 for it. Mine has 110,000 miles on it, but the engine was the next thing i was going to do before i ended up buying an 07 gt. Now it just sits in my driveway with a brand new pro 5.0 short throw shifter, brand new K&N CAI, and 17x9 rims 275/40/17's with about a 1,000 miles on them. If I were gonna sell mine, i would probably sell it for about 3 g's. So deffinetly don't pay over 3 for it because there are better deals out there.

Don't ever trade an old car in to a dealership. You would get more value out of it just giving it away to a friend. You might get 1 grand for that car.
