best way to achieve 400+rwhp?
Ill soon have around 10k maybe more to spend on my 96 mustang gt.
All i have now is full exhaust, intake, and well just average stuff. It will still be a daily driver also for a while so i do not want anything to extreme. The engine i have now has about 200,000 miles so keep that in mind. Any ideas you guys have i would be happy to hear. |

Boost on
a fresh PI motor, would be nice, some supercharger and turbo kits come with everything to make it work on a stock motor. I didn't have my KB on a stock cammed motor, but it does make very drivable power, and I get around 20mpg on the highway, cruising. One possible downside I don't think I've seen anyone mention,is that it can make the motor run a bit warmer during some driving, mine does in town, I'm looking into a heat exchanger , and possibly radiator upgrade. I 'm sure someone will soon follow my post, saying you should leave the NPI heads on

you can boost the npi and get 400. Or just port the npi heads.

New motor and a single turbo. You may also want to look at beefing up the rest of your car.

yea with that power upgrade you're going to have to make sure the rest of your stang can handle it ... suspension upgrades ... sub frame connectors ... brake upgrade ... definately sit down and plan it out cost out everything ... with a motor at 200,000 I'd go ahead and get a new motor ... a basically stock sn95 engine isn't pushing to much hp to start with compared to its successors... engine upgrade is always the best cost/power ratio

get an 03/04 cobra swap and you will be right under 400hp and then you have a good base to build on. i would say for sure you need some engine work because 200k miles is a lot to throw boost to it. i would think you would have engine trouble shortly after adding a blower.

why not do the 5.4 swap. a nice set of heads, and cams. you should be somewhere around 400. or like others have said, do the termi swap.

Trickflow heads, stroker kit, good intake and cam set, long tubes and you will be pretty damn close on motor.

heres my stock 2v with a hellion 61mm turbo at the track and these were the worst times of the day...yes stock motor and a turbo....does have a built rear though and a nice clutch...it went deep into the 11s later that night

i would do a terminator swap with a few dollars to spare.
don't forget though a 200k mile chassis might want some suspension work with a 400 hp combo.

Stroker Kit, Cam, NPI Head Porting, Lifters, Intake Manifold will get you where you want. Now I notice people leave the most important thing out and that's ..... TUNING!!!!!! So All of that I said and Tuning will land you well into the 400hp and waay less than $6,800 or 3/4 of your budget. Be sure to take around another grand and be sure the 400+hp can m\be transffered properly... Twin disc clutch set and aluminum driveshaft and go ahead and beef up the rear with a good ol FRPP 3.73's.
Then go z28, 350Z, Vette Hunting
