Front end NOISES!
I just bought an 96 mystic cobra from one of my buddies. The car has a handfull of annoying problems. It has sportline coils and the shocks are shot in the rear, it bottoms out over bumps in the road. I have read thru most of the suspension stuff and correct me if im wrong i should replace the shocks and struts with ones for the fox bodies.
Secont annoyance is the rotors are warped all to hell and need replacement. If the rotors are really really warped can it wear out the ball joints?? When I reverse and apply the brakes it makes a thud noise that i can feel through out the car. Then when i go foward and hit the brakes it will make the noise again. WTF Last of all the U-joints are i need of replacement. Should I replace them, or just go for the alumnium shaft???? I will take all the help I can get. Im trying to get this car to feel tight again. Thanks!! |

The suspension problem that you have when over bumps. When you get aftermarket shocks and struts they come with differnt size spacers to
prevent damage to the shock. I have put plenty of shocks and sturts and never had problems with them. Also if you have enough of a drop, make sure the rear pinion snubber is the right size. You might be hitting it. The u-joints. You can do them youreself pretty easy of get them done for cheap money. Or you can spend 280 on an alum. driveshaft. Thats youre choice. The rotors are Cobra specfic...just get them turned down by a machine shop. Much less expensive then getting new rotors. My 97 cobra did the same thing, i turned them down. now ok. The noise from reverse to drive, could be anything. Could even be youre bad u-joints. COuld be bad bushing for the control arms, or even a loose bolt. No certain answer there, sorry. Good luck bro.

The popping noise on your mustang might be loose bolts on the cross member. There are two bolts on each side of the car that are located where the fender and door meet, right in that area under the car you will see them, my brothers' mustang was doing the same thing. If I'm not mistaken they are 15mm or 5/8". Hope that helps.
