i have a 98 cobra svt 5 speed dohc. when i go start it up, it sometimes starts but dies, or it starts but its a weak, studdered start. i only use premium but only once in a while idle speed increases to about 1200 rpm. whats really going on here?

hmmm...i don't wanna say for sure but same thing happened to my buddy's 97 cobra, ended up being the timing chain broke....does it run okay once you've got it running..when idling at 1200, is it smooth or idling rough?

it runs real smooth when i start it up. the idle speed increases only once in a while, and the car doesnt run rough when @ 1200 rpm,its natrual idle speed in about 850 rpm. just louder and more unnatrual. from all of that it does kinda make sense that the problem could be the air intake control unit. either it needs to be cleaned or replaced.
