gear brands and whinning

Hi guys I have a 96 gt and I bought some motive 4.10 gears, the shop that i called to install them have a good price but the said that most other gears including motive wine . they said that the gears that do not wine are the ford racing gears. I was told that gears do not wine unless installed incorrectly. does anyone know anything about this ????????

I have Motive 3.90's and they whine a tad. I only can hear them if I have my radio turned off...

ford racing first choice and motives second. but with a good installer you should be set either way.

most of the time if they are setup wrong they will not whine. i have not installed motive before, but i know good rear end guys who have and have had to remove and recheck and still be on perfect numbers and still whine. Just the nature of the gear i guess.

Hey jag, I actually have a 73 Mustang with a set of 3.70 gears and a 97 Cobra and just installed a set of motive 4.10's in it. I have no whine at all. Even with all things considered two identical rear ends can have different characteristics (it's just engineering, no two parts are ever exact), but I have had no issues at all. What I will tell you is that regardless who does them, and what brand, they need to ensure that they provide the proper backlash and pinion depth, otherwise you may encounter a slight whine or so. It just takes patience on the part of the installer and experience doesn't hurt.

In this case you will just have to have some trust in the mechanic. Good luck, but it's not all that hard, you should be fine.

hey guys well i finally gotmy gears installed 4.10 motive, i really dont hear very much whinning at all when driving up to speed but when i am slowing down i hear the gears whine kind of loud. the gears say that they require a 500 mile breack in would this kind of help the winning, also when I put it in reverse i hear a clunkk kind of loud. does anyone have any ideas as to what the clunnkk could be >?????? any opinions or advise would be apreciated.
