TERRIBLE times at drag strip.....

So tonight i was really antsy about racing. i did some weight reduction to the car(bumper support, rear seat delete, trunk is gutted) i have some toyo proxes that do good on the street. and i was going to spray a 75 shot.

My previous best has been a 9.10 at 78 mph without an o/r h pipe with a 2.09 60ft.

Tonight i had my exhaust and my tune back from sct and the tune for nitrous.

1sr run i planned on spraying it but i was low on nitrous and my bottle pressure was down to 850. i sprayed it anyway only to have the car die on the top end.

i let out pretty easy and punched it only to spin my way to a 2.300 60" i didnt spray it until third gear but it pulled flat being the pressure of the bottle. The final time was a 9.518 at 82.099 mph with the 2.300 sixty

my next run i shut off the nitrous and i did a good burn out. i turned the dial to setting 3 which is the performance tune. i rolled out to a ****ty 2.458 sixty foot crossing the line at 9.579 at 78.516 mph.

what the hell is going wrong. i have all this suspension and i cant hook to save my life. i leave the line at about 1800 and pedal it but soon as i touch the gas it spins. I ran better before with my ****ty kumho's and no tune. i atleast got to 2.2 out of those. what should my car be at? im frustrated right now.

m just pissed bc my friend has the same car as me almost.....he doesnt have the pi heads, but he does have the pi cams and intake and stock exhaust except flowmaster weldins and on a 100 shot on e/t slicks he cuts a 1.6 60 ft and goes 85 mph at 8.1 he also has the same gears as me 373's and he doesnt have near the suspension i do. ugh!!! im buying tires this week.......

The problem is, your supension is set up more towards handling and looks, not straightline performance.

The subframe connectors and control arms will help stiffen the car up and help elliminate deflection, but the lowering springs and the MM swaybar (front) will make the car transfer LESS weigh then even the stock parts. I did not see the type and size tire you are running. Most 18's are not very dragstrip friendly either.

There are always tradeoffs when setting a car up. If you want you car to really handle good, it will usually not get a good 60 ft at the track.

If you want optimum dragstrip performance, handling will not be the best.
There are way's to set the car up to handle O.K (close to stock or maybe slightly better) and work very well at the track but it still requires compromises and a couple changes to set it up for the track (tire swap, adjust shocks and struts, remove front sway bar).

thats where im confused at i have these tokico 5 way illuminas. i keep hearing mixed reviews on where to set them for drag. Should i go soft up front and soft in the back or stiff in the back. Im ditching the eibach sportlines and going eibach drag springs, i bought a set of weld pro stars today with brand new mickey thompson et's on them im going to go try again. And this is my first rear wheel drive car ive had at the track. im very familiar with drag racing but ive always had awd talons. Launching an awd is much easier to do.....

I swear Ive seen a pic of your car before..... Were you thinking about trading it for a Civic from FL?

Anyway, you want the fronts soft and the rears stiff to stop the rear from squatting and also rebounding back up into the fender well.

Did you order just the rear eibach drag springs? They are O.K, but somewhat of a waste of money.

Do you know the spring rate of your front steeda coil overs? If thier not thier drag springs, Get a set of drag Qa1 coil over springs along with fox v8 rears (or cut sn95 v8 rears) and you should be good to go there.

Which ET tires did you get (drag radials, DOT slicks, or slicks), what size?

needs more seat time imo. i was able to 2.1 60' my lightning on 20" chrome wheels and crappy nitto nt-404 tires. and the lightning is basically bone stock. you just have to realize that you tires aren't gonna hold and rooooolllll into the throttle. your 60' is definetly killing your times.

1) Drag radials are a must at the dragstrip

2) Practice will help alot

3) I noticed I get better traction during the day than at night for some reason. Maybe it's because the sun is keeping the surface warmer, I dunno. Try taking it out to the strip during a sunny day that's not too hot and see if you get better results.

This you first time at the track with the et streets? It took me a few tries to learn with my Nitto DR's. The best way I found is launch at about 4500 and slip the clutch out. With street tires I was leaving at 1500-1800. I know little different car but you get the idea. If the only thing that changed is the tires from you last trip, then you just need to adjust your technique. The ET Street should bite better than my Nittos and I run 1.8's 60ft.
