I just read an article that the 2011 v6 is going to make 300 HP. I'm glad to hear that Ford is making progress in the engine department, but its a bit discouraging that I have to play catch up to run with a stock 6 as a New Edge GT owner.

Here's the link-

^Yeah but i'd rather have a 215n/a hp v8 then a 300hp turbo'd v6.

Well...i would also have to say in ford's behalf, that are making some progress. Seeing as how the 5.4 is in the GT500. I mean, who would thought before that a cobra would come with a 5.4. I think for a while that idea kinda went out after the Cobra R. So who knows, in a few more years we could see the 5.4 in the GT's and maybe a monster in the cobra's. All i know is, after buying my first mustang, i will never drive another sports car. To what these cars do, with what they have, is damn amazing in my opinion.

If a Newbie can chime in... The 5.4 S/C V8 is an AMAZING Motor. A pulley swap, tune, will add another 75 RWHP, since it already has a CAI. My Vert stickered (loaded) for $56,720, I paid $54.5K. Not cheap, mind you, but heres the facts: Best bang for the buck, 4-seat, 6-speed, wind in your hair, seriously fast "sports car" on the planet. And there are less than 1,000 2010 Shelby Verts (and 3K coupes) on the road, so I don't see myself coming and going every day like those Camaro boys do...

I think those new v6's are going to be very unresponsive to mods. They seem to be pretty maxed out and with the 30mpg they will probably need to completely redesign the heads to get a higher HP threshold out of them. I would imagine they are using VCT with IMRC. I don't know I just think its going to be hard to get more HP out of them.

I think everyones forgetting the most important thing. The Mustang is a true Ponycar! That means well rounded. You want to be lightweight, usually a smaller-high output motor, that handles well, and can be purchased for a good price. Ford is the only one who has stayed with this ingredient.

You just said the V6's were a joke... Lol.

But ya for the general consumer ford is making all the right decisions.

300hp V6 is cool.

I say for once the Mustang and Camaro (stock to stock) will have a fair playing feild. Normally the stock camaro is faster becasue of the bigger motor. But now with the over 400hp motor thats going to be coming in 2011 Mustangs and Camaros will be back to battling it out.

Now the fact that my mustang will be on N20 and have to shoot a 125shot to keep up with a 30mpg V6 is well sad.

V6s and the new V8s will be just as modable as they are now. Just a different style of modding... bigger turbos and injectors and new cams and etc etc

The HP and MPG I would guess are from high compression. I'm willing to bet that making it flow better will net minimal gains and to get big numbers dished pistons will be necessary.

But ya it is nice to know the mustangs are going to be outperforming camaros soon. On top of getting better mileage.

I guess I should clarify, a smaller "V8" for a ponycar. And, its not that I hate V6s, just the lousy ones that the American auto manufacturers have been churning out in their sports cars for way too long. There is too much technology out not to have something decent in there.
