Drag Racing

Hey all, I just wanted to get a couple peoples opinion on drag racing. i'm taking my car to the track for the first time on friday. it's a mostly stock gt with steeda suspension and street tires.

im very new to dragging... i've only made a couple passes down the track. so suggestions on launching and shifting would be much appreciated.

thx

I launched around 2800 rpm or so when I was stock if I remember correctly. Best shift point I found was around 6000 in 1st and 5800 for the rest. For launching, it's easier to just find a good launch rpm where you spin just slightly and can mash it. It's really best though to try to bring the revs to around 4k and feather your way through first, but that'll take alot of practice to get right. Don't drive through the water box, go around and just spin the tires over alittle to clean them off, no need to smoke them. I liked the rear tire pressure around 22# with the Goodyears. If you do it right you can probably pull off some sub 2.0 60's.

The other thing I'd add is it's better to go a little easy and pull a clean run that's slower than you expect then to get all excited trying to pull out the stops and look like a total newb when you brake something or get all screwed up at the line.

And just so it hits home, if you don't have slicks, you don't drive through the waterbox, nor do you have to do a burnout! Like it was said above, a quick spin to clean your tires is more than enough.

Good luck!
