diff noise


we have a 1999 4.6 GT and it has a noise in the rear axle ,can anyone please help with info on wheel bearing replacement DIY .many thanks.PS we are in australia so not many techs. thanks Amber

it sounds like a crrrrrrrrrin the wheel bearing or carrier bearing at wheel speed.

If it is a wheel bearing, it's not hard to change. I just did mine this past week.
You'll need:
a slide hammer ( to knock out the bearings)
correct size socket used with heavy hammer to install the new bearings back in (I used 1 5/8)
new seals
new cover gasket
sealant
new gear oil plus a friction modifier
a shop manuel would help too

Well, remove the wheel.

remove the caliper and rotor...remove the ABS sensor first

remove rear diff cover and drain fluids..remove c-clips and remove axles

use seal removerr and remove seal then use slide hammer with attachment for wheel bearings and remove bearing. Intsall in reverse
