Knocking

when i turn on my car during the cold mornings i hear this knocking sound coming from the left side of the car. some of my buddys told me to add thicker oil and that should take care of the problem. what do you guys say?

sounds like the oil is to thick already and your getting the natorice death knock known to be given right after changing the oil/ or on cold starts when the oil is a little thicker and takes longer to travel and build pressure

could be the early signs of bearing failure. how many miles are on it??

it has almost 89000 on it. mainly all highway miles. im running 5W-20 on it right now.

Definetly bad idea to add thicker oil. Is the sound coming from lower in the engine or in the valvetrain?

thats not many miles at all. and the cold is making the oil thicker. could be something else
