Question

Procharger Guys!

What are things to look for when purchasing a used Procharger setup (one that has already been uninstalled...)?

Thanks

Well I never bought a used Supercharger before, but just from owning mine and driving it daily I would say look at the impeller blades (the fan looking thingy on the inlet side of the supercharger) for any damage that may need to be blended out ( a nick or burr can be filed down fairly easy and should not noticeably effect performance unless it's more than 1/8" or more. I do it all the time in our helicopter engines which is a really big turbine engine and it helps out in our power assurance checks afterward.) Cracks on the impeller are a no-go. You can sort of check the seals for leaking by feeling inside the outlet tube but usually you can't tell because most prochargers are already soaked with oil from the blow-by of the engine vent case. There's also a certain amount of end play in the impeller shaft but i do not know offhand and i have no way of looking it up from where i am right now. Check the housing for any cracks leaks or obvious damage. Other than looking at all the supporting hardware that goes with the kit i.e. hoses, blow-off valve, cracks in the inter-cooler, ect... ect... that's about all i can think of. Hope it helps.

check for bearing play, wiggle the pulley/shaft. rotate the pulley to see if the wheel turns or if there is slack. check for oil seal leaks, the old prochargers were notorious for having a seal go bad when a belt got thrown.

if you get the serial # you can call procharger and give them the # and see if it's been serviced or not.
