Depending on what year your car is, I would only go with either 245 or 255 up front and 275 in the rear and yes 40 on both. But then again that will mean you can't rotate your tires.

I'm in the same process, but replacing all 4 tires and I can't decide what I want. If I do what I just said, then I can't rotate them and my baby is a Daily Driver. Good luck

kinda off topic, but does anyone here have experience with the difference in grip levels between a 245/45 series tire and a 275/40 series tire? I currently run a 255/45 on my 17x8 01 cobras. recommended tire size is 245/45, but ive seen up to a 275/40 without problem. my first thought was that the additional width would be better out of the hole, but im trying to justify the extra cost of the tires.

my friend runs 245/45 general exclaim uhp's and can cut a 2.1 60'

I would NOT recommend putting a 275 on a 8inch rim.

Lay off the burning out. Your front tires I believe should wear faster then the rear because of the turning.
Did/Do you rotate your tires?
Are all 4 tires the same and have the same amount of miles?
Pretty much saying did you get them all at once.

yeah yeah i know its made for a 9 inch rim, but they fit 8 inch rims with minimal pooching and havent flown off of anyones rims that ive talked to (and i know quite a few people with 275s on 8 inch rims.) the question was does anyone have experience with a difference in the level of grip between the 245 and 275

Sorry, didn't really read the quesiton right.
You'll have more grip the wider tire you go, but I do believe you will lose tarction as in turning, curving or anything that's not straight foward.
It also depends on the tires, every tire brand/model or whatever is a little off than others.

i didnt read everything but ill say something lol

the second number in the sizes are an aspect ratio. so a 35 isnt necessarily gonna be smaller in hight than a 40.

a 245 is a taller tire than a 265. i would go with the 245 cause it would fill the wheel well better

a little thing on 275s... ive had them on 17s and 18s and they do rub in the front. if you have them and think they dont, check your sway bar up front and youll find clean spots. they dont rub enough for you to notice and its not a big deal

+1
I forgot to mention it's not best to put 275's up front, but I wouldn't go over 245 on a 8inch.
I have 17x9 or 9.5's all around and I'm thinking of doing 275-40 Rear and 255-40 Front.
275-45 is gonna be a big tire and throw your speedo off.

a 275-40-17 is a taller tire than a 255-40-17 so you will have more tire to fender gap up front.

Yeah, but that's the better way to go.
I have 245-45-ZR17 99W Toyo Proxes 4 all around now.

Would you guys do 255-40 up front and 275-40 in the rear. Which will mean you can't rotate the tires. But being said it's a Daily Driver?
I can't decide if I should go with that setup because of not being able to rotate and being a daily driver or if I should just go all 255's.
Now I have all four tires at 245-45.
