Locking gas caps Anyone?

I never liked the fact that our gas can be stolen or someone trying to dump something in the gas cap to mess with our cars so i bought a fram locking gas cap. Anyone else bought this or a locking gas cap of some sort? Just a peace of mind thing I guess, but I dont want the check engine light to come on as a result. Thanks

We have them on all our cars.

Actually, the Mercedes's may have the locking gas cap cover deal that has to be opened from the inside, so we might not have put one on them.

A little peace of mind, even if it is very easy to get past them.

I don't have one on my stang but I do on my Explorer. Didn't help me though as they cut the hose that goes into the gas tank and siphoned it out from there.

i dont think the sn95 cars have the sensor that detects if the cap it so but i know the s197 cars do. all i have to say about locking gas caps is...lock only keep honest ppl honest and ive picked alot of gas caps (ppl would come into my uncles locksmith shop all the time cuz they were retarded and lost the key) so they really arent that great.

true...but ppl are still retarded

example
every few months, one of the car dealerships sends out an ad that has a fake key with it, and supposedly this key gets u a discount or something like that, but ppl will bring that key in, wanted to know what car it fits and if they can get copies for it, lol

My dad went out and got 5 after someone jacked gas out of his car, so our whole family has them (no problems).

On another note, I am pretty tired of hearing "locks only keep honest people out".
Its not like there are only honest people and hardened criminals, everyone has a limit as too how much they are willing to risk when committing a crime.Thieves are people too, and that means they can be lazy. The idea is to make it harder for them to get your gas than it would be to go look somewhere else.

You could armor plate your gas tank assembly, but does that mean everyone that wants to take your gas has a plasma cutter? In the same way, not everyone knows how to pick a lock, or has the desire to go so far as to cut in to your tank.

But, I will never understand not putting a lock on your own property because someone might steal it, why make it even easier for them to take? Maybe you could even offer home delivery!

When I bought my Bronco it had one on it and I hated it, so I replaced it with a factory cap. Never had any problems with any of my Mustangs or my Bronco... Guess I live in a honest town "Fort Riley" lol.
