leave stock or mod for more fun?
I have been lurking here a while trying to learn as much as possible about my car. I have a small collection going and my pride is a 2004 Cobra, screaming yellow with 20k miles on it. I got it from a Fla. dealer who sold it new and took it on trade when the buyer wanted something else. I paid 20k for it and had it shipped to Texas. The car is perfect in every way. I put about 1k miles on it and then parked it in my garage to be used on good days. It is a coupe. I do however feel the itch to buy some parts, other than the Bassani exhaust I installed and the line lock but I worry about losing value as I mod it. I have no need to sell at this point but later want it to be the best it can be. I know most of these cars are modded etc so am I better off leaving mine alone? I am 54 yrs old and still like to hot rod but not at the cost of reducing the value of this car. What is the thought here ? Leave it alone or not? I also have other cars to play with so I don't have to mod this one........just seem to want to. Also have a 1964 Falcon Sprint,302,4 speed and a Viper Truck, 1973 Vette, 2009 Shelby gt-500. Like them all but I really like the Cobra!

mod it, you wont depreciate the value of it by putting on exhaust, as most people expect these cars to have some mods. just keep the old stuff around and you can put it back on same as it came off.
sounds like a nice car, welcome to the site, and post up some pics. screamin yellow is one of my favorite colors.

Welcome Willie - thanks for coming out from behind the curtain to play with us!Def mod it...Love the Cobra but it's fun to change things up and make it your own. Let's see some pics of this beast! What else is in your collection?

since the price of '03/'03 cobras drops daily & I wouldn't think that would change anytime soon. I say mod it as much (or as little) as you want, they show no signs of ever being collectable IMO. since your of an age to remember them, I always think of 10th aniversary Trans Am's when people bring up collectable cars. tons of people bough them & stashed them away thinking they'd be worth a fortune in 20 years, well guess what? it's been 31 & there are still so many untouched, low mile, 10th aniv. Trans Am's around that its not even funny & as such they don't really have much value.

i would suggest doing some very "mild" mods. for example cold air intake, catback, maybe a tb/plenum combo, and short throw shifter. with these mods you can either sell as is and it shouldnt drop the value at all and if it does then the mods are easy enough and quick enough that you could probably replace them all within a day.

I know there are people answering my question but for some reason when I pull up this thread I can only see my post. I see 5 replies but there don't seem to be there for me to read. I can click on the people who posted and get to see the first sentence or so but can't read it all. What am I doing wrong?

Um, then what's that thing that carries air between the supercharger and the heads?

Oh - it's about now that I realize that by "plenum", you guys were talking about the thing that goes between the TB and the intake manifold.
I was thinking of just single- vs dual-plenum intakes, and that there was still an intake manifold below the S/C.

Iv'e done about every bolt on mod you can to mine. It's a very low serial number from a lower production year for Saleen, so it should be more " collectable" than alot of other saleen cars, but it just isn't fast enough. I get compliments all the time on it's looks and people always assume the power is there to back it up but it just isn't. I am almost finished rebuilding the suspension, I just finished up rebuilding the rear end this winter. I have some nice rare 4.6 svo heads and a svo matching intake to go with it. I just need to save up a little for the Sean Hyland cams to really set it off. In the end I intend to have an all out monster, but the end is pretty far off right now.
I guess my take on keeping it "Original" is that that's only important if you are purchasing the car purely for it's collectable value and long term return. If your gonna drive it, then have some fun with it!!!

Mod it. Just do bolt ones really. I would say they raise your resale value a little. Especially if your selling it privately.
