Hood Insulation

I was thinking about removing the black insulation under my hood because it is messed up a bit, but I don't know if it serves any other purpose besides reducing engine noise and if it will harm anything when the water falls through the vents while driving in the rain.

I don't have one....since i got side-swipped in a parking lot..back in 2000..i was able to get body shop to order me a cobra hood and it came with-out insulation...the only draw back is that my hood is white and it takes some work to keep the underside clean...besides that no problems...and the PPG paint has not given me any problems eithe..(from the engine heat)later...

you might want to think twice - i think someone posted about one catching on fire - - - from what i know, it acts as not only a noise reducer, but it is also a fire retardent . . .

i guess it wouldnt be a big deal to take it off . . . i'm sure a new stock one would run pretty high dollar (atleast from the factory anyways)
