Question from possible future Mustang owner
First I apologize if this is not the correct location for my post.
I have been a Dodge owner pretty much all my life (I'm 43), I currently own a 2007 Charger SXT V6. The 2011 Mustang V6 is the first car in a while that has me considering a non Chrysler vehicle, I test drove a manual at my local dealer and was quite impressed to say the least. I have no aversion to Fords (no chevy's though), the last one I owned was a 72 Gran Torino back in the late 90's. Anywho, I would love to get the manual transmission but for 2 reasons I really need an auto, first, my wife can't drive a stick and I wouldn't want to teach her in a brand new Mustang, second, I'm up in the north east US and really don't want to live without a remote car starter (I'm assuming I can purchase a Ford starter like I did the Mopar starter I installed in my Charger?) I'm aware of aftermarket starters for manual transmissions but I'd rather not hack up the wiring to install one. The big issue I have with the new 6 speed auto is there is no possibility of manually controlling upshifting and downshifting. My Charger has whats called an auto stick (it's actually the same transmission used in the Mercedes E class) so one can downshift and upshift manually, which I use allot. The question is (yeah, I finally am getting around to the question) what are the chances that the Ford aftermarket will be releasing a manual control kit for the 6 speed auto? I assume it would be possible, just tap into the tranny control module, a couple paddles to install on the steering wheel, over simplified but probably possible? Thanks very much for any insight and thanks for reading my post

None whatsoever. Ford auto trannies are good about having detents for each gear, and holding those gears, but they don't use the manumatics, and I've only ever seen one aftermarket setup for installing paddle-shifters in an auto. However, that was years ago, and required that you put a manual valvebody in the transmission.
Sounds to me like if your dead-set on the manumatic, you're gonna have to look elsewhere.

![]() I'm gonna hold my final decision till I test drive an auto, I've heard they don't feel as peppy as the stick, I really loved the manual I test drove, maybe I'll just have to be without a remote start for a few years and tell the wife to get off her butt and replace her 97 taurus that the frame rusted out on!
