2003-04 mach 1 or the 2001 cobra
okay im in a bind here, i need a new mustang to replace my 1998 V6 and originally i was going to get a mach 1 but now im starting to think about the cobra, i started to think about it because ive noticed that in my town there are more machs than cobras,
and cobras are more known that machs, so i did a little research and saw that the machs are lowed but the cobras have IRS and i want a mustang that can handle some corners, and not just go fast in a straight line, so please let me know which one should i get i really need help with this.and post why i should get that mustang. |

They're both great cars, but i really think it comes down to what the car looks like and the one you click with. Cause sometimes you think you know what you want, and then BAM you get hit with something else that totally changes your mind. I would keep an open mind about both until that special one is calling your name. lol But i would get a cobra...haha

i really want a roush stage 3 but thats not going to happen because of my budget lol, but i know that the machs are faster by like .2 seconds, and then i see the cobra here with its giant cobra letters on the bumper and im like... thats baddass right there. i really want it to go around conners fast to
(and can i put an 03 cobra bumper on the 01 because i like it a little better with the bigger cobra letters, but the exhaust looks nicer) AHHHH im torn apart, i like the IRS |

I'd say Cobra because you seem to want the IRS and you're already talking about doing some work on it.
I like both of them, but I would say Cobra because it's got Badass written all over it.

ya im not dissing mach's, but it seems like cobra's tend to come with this respect factor...lol you hear someone say "i have a cobra" and then your automatically like F*$@ ya! haha im still torn between the 99/01 cobra bumper and 03/04 cobra bumper. try and get ahold of the 99/01 for less than 450 bucks, its not easy!

I'd go with the mach if your planning on keeping the car for along while you'll be happy you spent the xtra money on it. i dunno about you guys but when i hear a cobra im like oh sweet but when i hear or see about a mach 1 im like HOLY BALLS.
for short term id get the cobra mod the hell out of it then sell it before its starts to poop on you. i dunno it all boils down to personal prefference, which one do you think will satisfy you more and keep you happy.

Mach. In the grand scheme, the machs are more rare. And you cannot deny that shaker. And the Mach has a history being a muscle car. Cobras are awesome don't get me wrong. And both are great cars. The stock to stock comparison the mach is a better starting point. With some pretty minor suspension mods the mach will out handle the cobra. But, either way you go. your not going to go wrong.

could you tell me some suspension mods please, because this is a major point in wanting to get the cobra, i looked up IRS for the Mach and it would cost something like $6k for it. im just 19 and thats like half the price of the car

I voted Mach1 because I'd never trade my Mach for a 99 or 01 Cobra but you're pretty set on IRS and Cobra name so just go for the Cobra.

get the 01 Cobra and sell me the rear bumper
![]() haha just kidding with you man (unless you really do get the 01, then you already have a buyer for the rear bumper) if it were an 01 CObra it would either have to be black or yellow for me. as for the Mach, a white one would work. which ever i found 1st is what i would buy haha you will be super happy with either car, jsut keep any eye out for a good deal. they are out there!

both great cars but i would go with the mach1. i love cobras but i love the rareity of a mach1. i have seen less than 10 03/04 mach1's in my town in my entire life while i have seen multiple cobras. with a few aftermarket parts the mach1 will outperform the cobra.

Something like this...Not sure if these exact parts will work, but, should give you an idea on a ball park of cost. Strut bar Mach 1 3 Point Strut Tower Brace - '03-'04 Ford Mustang Mach 1 springs Steeda Sport & Comp Springs - '99-'04 Ford Mustang trac pak Steeda G-Trac Stage 1 - '86-'04 Ford Mustang add some wider wheels/tires and youve got a cobra eater, even in the twisties.

Its a toss up, they are basicly the same car. The motors are a little differnt but pretty much the same hp output. Your main difference is going to be, interior, hood and bumpers, and the IRS. But imo, the solid axle will corner just fine if you have some good tires out back. I would just go with the best price of either one you find, and you should be happy.

You seem to be easily impressed with the name "Cobra." Don't forget, you're talking about a 99/01 Cobra, not a Terminator!
The Mach 1 will outperform that model Cobra in pretty much every catagory, right out of the box. And if you're just looking for an IRS equipped Mustang, the one in that model Cobra is pretty weak. There are plenty of Terminator guys who would gladly trade you their IRS for the Mach 1's straight axle, either straight up, or for a little cash. Add some stiffer springs, a strut tower brace, upper and lower control arms, and the Mach 1 will flat fly around the twisties! |

i'd say mach for sure.... the straight axle is stronger than IRS and will still corner great with good tires and suspension which the mach already has... and that damn shaker hood just looks so fuckin sexy!!
