Question about DUMPS???

Ok so i have a 98 gt and its just way to expensive for me right now to buy LT and have them installed so i was think about just getting an x pipe and catback for everyday driving but also have some dumps installed for when im racing. Would i see a noticeable hp difference with the dumps and if so where should they be located along the exhaust. Is this idea even worth trying to do??? Is there better ideas than what im trying to do? let me now all your thoughts and opinions... only mods right now are 3.73s and xcal tuner tuned at 92 octane...thankx john

I have that exact set up with a catless x pipe and 40 series dumps the difference is little, I've hears a few guys say the only time it will make a big difference is on high horsepower cars there is a lil gain but not a whopping amount of hp difference, the sound level is much better IMO if you don't mind not being able to hear your radio! and as for the placement of the dump's they fit good right where the stock ones took place ill take a pic of under my car tommorro and show you the set up!

Are you saying that your dumps are located after the mufflers? maybe i did understand but i was thinking of having the dumps like right after the stock headers so the dumps would be located somewhere along the xpipe... pictures will probably clear up my confusion thanks

It's raining here right now, but yeah there located at the end of the x pipe where the stock mufflers would originally sit if it was the stock h pipe and mufflers, but when it stops raining i'll post a pick!

when they day dumps they mean right after the mufflers welding turndowns, it doesn't really gain hp just a different sound and some people don't want tail pipes. If you put something after the headers those are cutouts which gain nothing on our cars and also sound like shit. your car actually needs the backpressure to make power so putting cutouts will actually hurt you and get you made fun of cause when you hear a car thats that loud and annoying you expect it to be fast and ifyou are only running 13's you are just retarted. Old muscle cars ran cutouts our straight headers cause 1. it sounds better on them, 2. they can actually make power doing it. Just put a mid-pipe and a cat-back on and don't worry about dumps cause they are going to do nothing for you at the track. I have dumps but i also have a V6 bumper so it looks better

Oh I get what your saying I did not understand it till 99stang answered your question, OH god no my dumps don't go right off the headers indeed that would be extremely annoying I thought you meant branching them off of a h pipe or x pipe! Mine run off a x pipe it sounds hella good but still can be a lil loud so I couldn't imagine what a 4.6 would sound like running off the headers that would actually kill the performance in the car I think!

i wouldn't even run them off the xpipe, h-pipe. Dumps are meant to come off the mufflers. Look up mac pro-dumps and you will see what i am talking about. Our cars need some type of muffler rather it be a bullet style like i have to a full chambered muffler. Our cars do not sound good without mufflers at all, now don't get me wrong i love loudness and thats why i got race bullets cause i wanted loud as possible, but when you take mufflers off the car sounds like shit all the time except at WOT. Right now for the mag shootout i had to have actual mufflers so i had to put flowmaster 40's with dumps and its the crappiest exhaust i ever heard. So dumps don't always make the car sound better

Heres my set up with just X pipe and flowmasters before I got the dumps and all the cats removed so im pretty sure you get the idea it's a nice sound!

Every mustang site I came across loved the sound of the dumps whether it is x pipe or h pipe just type in flowmasters dumps and plenty of discussion will pop of and reviews not one negative comment you can't go wrong with that set up the only review that I read that was bad is this one here this guy posted! but, like I said it is loud but I love it, it will deffinitely vibrate your brain!

Status: offline I had flowmasters with dumps but I had to put the tips on because it was so bloody loud. The sound was excellent though. I just got tired of it after about 6 months. Its not hard or expensive to get the tips put on so go for it. You can always change it if its not to your liking.

theres actually only a small difference now cuz I still have the stock mid pipe and stock mufflers, I'll get those upgraded later, I got tired of lookin at my krimped up tail pipe on the right side from when I spun out on a canyon road and the rear right corner hit the dirt/rock embankment, so I got the pipes cut off at the back of the mufflers and had turn-downs put in

Yeah you should get a catless X pipe and you will be Nasty something I don't want to hear roaring up behind me it'll make me put my blinker on and get to the side lol I have people who do that when I pass they pull over out of my way or they slow down and roll down there window and give me the thumbs up I remember a guy told me once "man I could listen to your car for days I heard that thing from 3 blocks away" and your cobra will has the whine of the S/C added bonus! Here soon I was gonna make a video with an actual camera so everybody here can see the reaction I get and the looks that I get when driving down the streets and even next to other mustangs! :award

yeah, one of my favorite things about the cobras is the distinctive rumble of the exhaust when the rpm's are comin down from a high rev and at idle

the reactions u get are awesome, I have to hit the boost really quick to get reactions cuz u cant really hear my exhaust, what kind of setup do u have ddmachine?

This is just with the X pipe and flowmasters before I got the Catless X pipe and the dumps so you could only imagine how loud it is now!
