3:73 Gear change

Yeah, I'm a newbie!

Okay, after doing a little research, I have decided to swap gears in my 2000 GT to 3:73s. I have a 5 speed, mods so far are BBK CAI, BBK 75mm Throttle Body, Trick Flow upper plenum, long tube headers, off road x-pipe and flowmaster 40 cat back. The question I have is this: how difficult is the swap? I have a fair amount of intelligence and I know how to use a wrench. What all is involved in this swap?

def go with 4.10 also. but anyways, this is a mod that is best left to a pro to do uinless you knwo exactly what your doing. if your off just a little bit, the gears will whine and wont last as long

I was told that if I bought 3.73' or 4.10's that my first and second gear would be usless.. why is that?

i also prefer 3.73s. brad03svt i wouldnt bother changin the gears in your car.you already have 3.55s so to change to a 3.73 wouldnt be worth it in my opinion

Okay, so I should let a shop do it? Anyone here ever done it? I've rebuilt an engine, so I know a little about tolerances and such.

I just had 3.73's put in on Friday. I LOVE THEM!!!! imo, it's a perfect gear ratio. i would have a shop do it for a couple hundred bucks. I pd. $300. A shop will have all the right tools and can probably get it done in a couple of hours. get it done right by someone who really knows what they are doing.

Okay, I will defer to letting a shop do it. I have a couple of friends that have or had shops, so I can probably get it done fairly inexpensively. Thanks!
