What do the 2v, 3v, 4v mean?


Hay guys im not to familiar with the new mustangs..I just want to know what the 2v, 3v,and 4v mean?? Like i seriously dont no what it means? Just curious.

the 2v have i exhaust vale and one intake valve. the 4 v have 2 of each and the 3 valve has 2 intaes and 1 exhasut and this is per cylinder. i think im right baout the 3v but may be backwards. its not a dumb ?

You are correct about the 3v having two intake valves and one exhaust valve.

There are even 5v engines now.

Yeah, certain VW, Audi, Ferrari, and Bugatti engines use 5 valves, but I think they're starting to go back to 4v.

my quad has 5 valves, 3 intake 2 exhaust, works really well although it does sometimes have overheating problems because the exhaust valves are right next to eachother and the intake are at the other end next to eachother, so the heat only get pushed out from one area, lol sorry got carried away. yea 3v and 4v are the most popular for the higher end cars right now.

quick question? If its a three valve is it a single over head cam?

back in the day V stood for venturies (sp) 2v meant 2 barrel carb, etc.

yes the 3 valve is a single cam
