Decisions: Best Mustang to buy?

Hey everybody,

I am new to the site and wanted to pick some brains to see what I should decide on getting. I am going to be in the market very soon for a car and I wanted to get something that I will be hopefully keeping for a long time to come. I was looking at all types of cars, such as STis, GTOs, WS6s, G35s, & so on.. Well, I figured I don't want a sedan, don't really trust Nissan so much. Also took into account all of the people that I know with Z28s & SSs that are always in the shop, not to mention other GM owners with similar headaches, so that kind of cut out the GTO.

I have narrowed it down to the Mustang as they have the best sounding V8s in my opinion. Since this will be my DD, I was wondering which mustang, in terms of reliability and performance, I should get. I am looking for best bang for my buck. The only Mustangs I am looking into getting are either a 2003-2004 Mach 1, 2003-2004 Cobra, & 2006 GT. Does anyone have any input for these three cars? I greatly appreciate it!!

If you want speed, hp, reliability and a nice car definitely go for the Cobra. It will take a beating, give a beating and look damn good doing both lol.

like everyone said, and 03-04 cobra will have you running a 11 second street car with hardly anything more than a pully, a tune and maybe injectors. the sound is orgasmic, and when you pull up, theres reallly gonna be nothing around that can fuck with you when you stop at a light.

its really hard to have a reliable car and beat it at the track.. something will break.. if you want to keep it stock or slightly mod it just get a 03/04 cobra and stay with the stock blower.. as soon as you go over 550whp shit will break.

also.. z28 and ws6 are sick cars and they can be reliable as well if you only lightly mod them. and in my opinion the best sounding v8s are pushrod chevys.

no man, you got it wrong. the best sounding engines are 100% stock v8's in a sketchy suspension lifted and huge body lifted chevy pick-up with a gutted cat and no muffler into a y-pipe to have the appearance of duals and massive 6" tips that were probably meant for a diesel. lmao

and just so this is on topic '03-'04 cobra's are sex.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yea, I was pushing for the Cobra too. Just hoping to find a good deal on one. A buddy of mine had an '03 when they came out and got rid of it shortly after because he was afraid he'd get into trouble, haha.. He was in the Marines and did want the headache I guess, I dunno. But once he lowered that thing, it handled as if it was on rails. So sik!

Personally, I wouldn't want to DD a Termie.

If I have to commute with it, I'd much rather have an S197 GT. Sure, it doesn't have the power of the Termie, nor is it as cheap to make 500+hp, but do you really want 500hp in your DD?

The S197 is just a much better platform than the fox chassis that was used up through '04.

I concur. An S197 Bullitt would make a fantastic DD. Once the new Boss 302s come out, there's also gonna be a lot of Shelby GTs that come up for sale as the F-stock guys switch up to the faster car.

Thanks for the additional replies guys. Yea, I am really torn by both chassis types. I like the "new edge" styles only because of the engines. I don't really need to explain why for the Terminator engines, but I guess the Mach's is similar. There's something about an American 32v DOHC V8 that redlines at near 7k that make me melt, but everything else seems cheap about the car... The interior design is blah to me. That is what I like about the S197's. The build quality seems better and the interior design invites me in. If they had the Mach 1's engine in the S197 I'd be sold on getting it.

All things considered, the 3v performs just about on par with the earlier 4v and has a much larger aftermarket. It's also all-aluminum, like the N/A 4v cars (but unlike the Termie).
