intake manifold question

the stock intake manifolds on the 2002 mustang gt are defective in that they frequently blow the gasket under the thermostat housing. dorman makes a manifold that is stronger in that area but the dorman manifold is generic for all 4.6 engines. will installing the dorman manifold on PI heads degrade engine performance versus the stock intake.

dorman intakes are garbage, stick with Ford Racing intakes.

to start off with, they don't use inserts where some of the acessories mount, just self tapping screws (good luck if you take it appart a few times) the "made in" gaskets are prone to leaking & they don't flow as well as stock.
add to that, their more than the ford part.

my wife's old 98 gt went through her stock intake and a dorman. I don't think one is any better than the other for longevity. I would agree with casper that the Ford part is easier to use.

well in defense of dorman intakes. i had no issues with the accessories and iv removed it twice, the gaskets are perfect IMO no leaks yet, and if i remember right i got my dorman for like 200 or 220 all the ford brand ones were that much but on the internet and required shipping prices and took too long to get to me so buying a dorman intake local was a no brainer.

and considering that dorman claims the intake to be a copy of stock why would it not flow as well? do you have flow tests showing such info?
i would love to know what R&d supports your accusations it would be interesting to bring it up to dorman as well.

but at this point your claims all seem to point to one thing.... USER MALFUNCTION

my first sugestion would be to use the search feature on this or any other forum & you'll see plenty of data on the pos dorman intake.
as to user malfunction, I'd never buy the pos to begin with so I wouldn't have any malfunctions with it.
I just bought a FRPP intake for my car from summit, it was here in 2 days & cost me 170.00.

I'm not some "random person" on here, ask around.
as to the not having used a product so a person can't know anything about it , thats just retarded.
you've got a long road ahead of you here bro.

Just as casper said the dorman is a pile of shit. Not to mention when/if you have to remove it its not the matter of going to nearly any parts store, dealership, online etc and getting some intake manifold gaskets. You need their bs little oring's or whatever they use.

Time to do some research id say.
